by David Agar Jaicks

Like the history of a summer leaf, Dave Jaicks' retrospective poems and stories start out bright green, then mature into a soft golden yellow. This is his second book of poetry.

David Jaicks lives and works in the hills of western Massachusetts with a golden retriever named Willy.

Review:
This book, like great photography, makes you look and think about the world a little differently, a little more artistically. This is Dave Jaicks' second book (following "River Rock," a similar and equally moving collection of prose and poems). I'm glad he published more of his works, because the first book, quite frankly, left wanting more. Jaicks writes in a sparse style, and one of the things he does particularly well is to juxtapose memories and musings with larger questions and ideas. We all think this way to a certain extent -- one thought triggers another -- and Jaicks uses this style in his poems, stories and other prose in a gentle way that is especially evocative and rich. As a fellow dog-lover, I especially enjoy the pieces that involves his dog Willy. I also enjoy his his childhood memories that are more sweet than bitter.
